We are pleased to announce that on February 11th the LDT CitiVERSE EDIC General Assembly has formally welcomed Germany as 15th signatory member state.
The decision of Germany to join the LDT CitVERSE EDIC brings fresh perspectives and enormous valuable expertise to the EDIC-ecosystem. It strengthens the shared mission to advance cities and regions in their capacity to engage in digital twinning and adopting citizen centered AI-driven services. Through the EDIC Germany can work on a systematic development of digital maturity of their cities and create economies of scale beyond national borders.
Ensuring interoperability and connectivity through the use of international open standards and open source components will create economies of scope and scale that secure public values and digital sovereignty.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gudrun Schwarz and Renate Mitterhuber to our Assembly”, said EDIC Chair Ernesto Faubel. “Germany will bring a lot of expertise through its past projects and its passion for open source will be invaluable as we continue to facilitate cities and regions in their capacity to engage in digital twinning and the development of citizen centered AI-driven services for the Citiverse.”
The Federal Ministry of Housing underlines the importance of EDIC membership to realise national goals. “Germany prefers a clear „standards-first approach” to ensure components are reusable across cities and borders”, states Gudrun Schwarz, sr. Policy advisor. “The EDIC establishes structural cooperation and scalability at the European level and helps to get better access to funding and facilities”.
